Counseling for Anxiety

Anxiety can feel like the muddy roots of the lotus flower, hidden under the surface but always weighing you down.

There are many paradoxes with anxiety. Your mind may be racing while you feel paralyzed and unable to take action. You may focus so much on caring for and thinking about others that you end up coming across as overbearing and pushing them away. You may be great at paying attention to details, but miss the most important aspects of a work project.

Anxiety looks different for everyone, but here are some common ways it may present in your life:

  • Avoiding situations, things or people that trigger you, to the point that you have difficulty managing everyday tasks and work

  • Erratic sleep that never feels restful

  • Working a job that you know does not fulfill your potential, often due to fear of managing anything more difficult or feeling like you can’t take on any more responsibilities

  • Frequently changing jobs or being fired/demoted

  • Difficulty unwinding and finding time for self-care

  • Unhealthy boundaries in relationships (which are often distressed and unsatisfying)

  • Using over-eating, television and/or alcohol to cope at the end of every day

  • Constant overwhelm, feeling like you are burning the candle at both ends

Over time you become worn down, burnt out, and resentful. The more you attempt to control your anxiety, the more it feels like it is controlling you.

My goal is to help you feel relieved of this paradox and frustration right away. We’ll work together and while we will always stay in the realm of what you’re comfortable working on, you can let go in my office.

You don’t have to be in control and you don’t have to do anything perfectly.

I’ll bring solutions for you to try, and provide a safe place for you to practice them. Not every solution works immediately, but I promise to provide you with options and you can rest assured that I will not stop until you’ve found the solutions that ease your anxiety.

You’ll feel supported, cared for, and slightly prodded in a good way, so that you know you are growing and moving toward a life that is no longer controlled by stress and anxiety.
