Can EMDR help with Anxiety?

EMDR can be very effective in treating anxiety, panic attacks and pervasive catastrophic thinking.

What does Anxiety commonly feel like?

Anxiety sometimes feels like a curse; like we will never rid its symptoms. In my practice, I have seen where long-term anxiety can erode one’s confidence that he or she will ever feel better and it feels overwhelming. I have hope for my clients that anxiety can be managed and they can feel more in control.

Personal History

A thorough personal history is needed to identify early events of anxiety, triggers and what happens to the body during anxious episodes. Many times anxiety originated with a traumatic event and then manifests in other situations later in life.

EMDR applications

Once we have a clear history with identifiable causes of anxiety, EMDR can help treat anxiety by processing certain events that initiated the anxiety. I have also used EMDR to help resource a client to know they can withstand an anxiety episode and ways to calm their body and brain. EMDR can also treat health anxiety depending on the medical issues going on.

IFS applications

I use EMDR in conjunction with IFS to identify “Parts” of ourselves that have manifested anxiety to help us please, succeed or win in life but are now causing issues in our life. This can be a powerful therapy to understand the inner self and Parts and how they work together.

In summary, long-term medication is not always a viable solution for anxiety; therefore it is important to seek the best therapy solution to alleviate symptoms and lead the life you deserve. I have seen clients feel better, seem lighter and accomplish their life goals while managing their anxiety in much better ways. If you want to learn more, please contact me soon.
